Good Ergonomics But Odor Could Be An issue For Some
I give them 4 stars because they are a great addition to my calisthenics workout. I personally have no complaint. Having said that, some people have complained that the dumbells give an unpleasant rubber-like chemical odor. They are not wrong about that. If you are in an apartment and have no covered private patio or balcony, you should seriously consider dumbells made entirely of iron or steel so there is no stink. In my case, I am in a house and I have a covered deck outside my door where I keep the dumbells. After completing my calisthenics in the house, I go to the deck to do my dumbell exercises. It’s warm enough 8 or 9 months of the year to just keep them out there. The rubber coating does not go to waste because it protects the surface of my deck, which is an issue just like hardwood floors could be an issue. With a little luck, come November/December, the stink will have gone away. If not, it’s no big deal. UPDATE 11/2/2025 I brought them into the house after a little over 5 months. If I put my nose to the rubber I can still smell the chemical but the odor no longer fills the room the way it did when I first got them. I think its a good idea to fold squares of paper towel to pace under the rubber to keep the carpet clean. So if you can keep them outside for about 5 months, after that you will do ok with these.
