READ THE OFFICIAL CONTEST REVIEW OF GAME CHANGERS VOLUME 1:
Athletes are respected because they inspire people from all walks of life. In Game Changers, author Dan Gold presents the stories of some of these extraordinary sportsmen and sportswomen who not only left a mark in their respective sports but changed the world through their resilience, determination, leadership, and perseverance. Serena and Venus Williams’ rise to fame came at the cost of training every day on subpar courts while navigating economic hardships as they grew up in the gritty neighborhood of Compton, California. Soccer superstar Lionel Messi was eleven years old when he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency. Apart from being exemplary athletes, soccer player Marcus Rashford and tennis player Naomi Osaka have also been fierce advocates for change. AFL footballer Ben Cousins and soccer legend Maradona went through their own redemption arcs.
Game Changers is a book any sports fanatic would love. From tennis to soccer, hockey to basketball, author Dan Gold shares the remarkable stories of these real-life athletic superstars who overcame their unique challenges to leave legacies that transcend their sports. Gold does a masterful job of connecting these narratives to emphasize the lessons that readers can learn from these exceptional people. At the end of each chapter, you will discover action plans inspired by the deeds of some of the most renowned athletes in the world. This book is a treat for any sports lover. If you’re looking for something inspirational, engaging and illuminating, we highly recommend Game Changers!

Legendary coaches can teach us much more than how to excel in sports
Game Changers 2 is a fitting and natural seque from Game Changers. While Dan Goldâs first book was a moving and inspirational guide for young athletes and their development, Game Changers 2 is another deep dive into the maturing of young people by studying the attributes of great coaches. Clearly, a great athlete must have superior athletic skills, but a coach need not. Some of the coaches in Game Changers 2 were world class athletes like Dan Gable. Others never excelled in sports. Nonetheless they became great coaches because of their ability to master themselves, the sport, and to gain the trust of their assistant coaches, and players. I found this to be even a more compelling read than Goldâs first book. It portrays coaches who were household names as I was growing up and paints them in an interesting light. I may never coach an NBA team or professional football team or baseball team, but the lessons that I took from this book about leadership styles, dedication to a craft, and the art of motivating young men and women were riveting. This is a must read for sports fans and a concise , well written handbook for the growth and fueling of young minds.

A Compelling and Inspirational Read
Game Changers 2 is a compelling exploration of leadership through the lens of some of the most iconic coaches in professional and collegiate sports. Dan Gold does a masterful job weaving together stories that highlight not just wins and losses, but the deeper impact great coaches have on the lives of the young men and women they lead. What sets this book apart is its heart. Itâs not simply about strategy or success on the scoreboardâitâs about character, perseverance, and the transformative power of mentorship. Through each chapter, Gold reveals how true leaders create environments where others can grow, thrive, and ultimately become leaders themselves.Game Changers 2 offers rich insights and lasting inspiration. It reminds us that the best leaders donât just shape teamsâthey shape people.

A powerful and down-to-earth playbook for teens to lead with heart, on and off the field.
I really enjoyed this second book by Dan Gold. Itâs full of real, down-to-earth stories from coaches who know what it means to lead with heart. Nothing feels preachy or over-the-top â just good, honest advice and moments that stick with you. I think itâs a great read for any teen athlete looking to build confidence and character, or even for coaches who want some fresh inspiration. Itâs a nice reminder that leadership isnât just about winning, itâs about how you show up for yourself and your team. Definitely worth picking up!

Dan Gold knows his audience
â¨You can tell the author respects teens. He doesn’t talk down to them or try to impress with jargon. He simply tells compelling, true stories and asks meaningful questions. Itâs exactly the tone todayâs students need. Both books in this series are rare and wonderful. I highly recommend them both.

Perfect for Group Discussions
â¨As a counselor, Iâm always looking for material that are both meaningful and also easy to engage with. This book checked both boxes. The reflection prompts open up conversations about leadership, identity, and purpose. This book is a treat. A must read and great gift. Iâll be assigning this next semester.

Great Resource for Mentors
â¨If you work with youth in any capacityâcoaching, teaching, mentoringâread this. Itâs not only motivational, itâs practical and highly entertaining. The questions at the end of each section give you a way to bring the message home. Do your teen a favor and buy this book. And then go back and buy the first book! They are wonderful.

A Quiet Wake-Up Callâ¨
What I love most about Game Changers 2 is that it doesnât shout its message. It shows it, through real lives, vivid moments, and obvious change. I came away feeling both inspired and challenged to lead with more intention. Wonderful book Both books in the series are well worth it.
