The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living
Original price was: $29.00.$13.99Current price is: $13.99.
From the team that brought you The Obstacle Is the Way and Ego Is the Enemy, a daily devotional of Stoic meditations—an instant Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestseller.
Why have history’s greatest minds—from George Washington to Frederick the Great to Ralph Waldo Emerson, along with today’s top performers from Super Bowl-winning football coaches to CEOs and celebrities—embraced the wisdom of the ancient Stoics? Because they realize that the most valuable wisdom is timeless and that philosophy is for living a better life, not a classroom exercise.
The Daily Stoic offers 366 days of Stoic insights and exercises, featuring all-new translations from the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, the playwright Seneca, or slave-turned-philosopher Epictetus, as well as lesser-known luminaries like Zeno, Cleanthes, and Musonius Rufus. Every day of the year you’ll find one of their pithy, powerful quotations, as well as historical anecdotes, provocative commentary, and a helpful glossary of Greek terms.
By following these teachings over the course of a year (and, indeed, for years to come) you’ll find the serenity, self-knowledge, and resilience you need to live well.

This is a must-buy – kudos to the authors for their research!
05 Sept 2025: This is a great collection of stoic principles and examples how how discipline can change your life. If you’re struggling with something; alcohol, life, weight loss, etc. – this is the book to buy. It’s a page a day; a calendar with a quote/story to think about to put your life and thoughts (back) into perspective. It’s helped me immensely since I purchased it. I’m glad I did and I’d recommend it to others hands down. Great job, Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman. This is a great read.

Life Changing
This book has been life changing. So much “forgotten” wisdom. Though there is a passage for you every day for a year, I can see myself reading this for years to come. It is a fast and easy read for any given day – but a lot to think about and act upon.

A great daily read for those wanting more calm in their lives
One of the best books out there about balanced thinking and living.

A Stoic Book of Hours
This review is for the leatherbound version. Is it worth the extra money? YES! And why? Anyone familiar with things like Benedictine Daily Prayer book or even the Book of Common Prayer in the Episcopal Church will look at this and say happily to the authors âI see what you did there!âIt looks like a Bible and is as well-made as a Cambridge Bible, if you know what I mean. It could be seen as a Stoic Bible, but itâs more like a Book of Hours or prayer book in the way you use it. Itâs meant to be used as a daily practice and this is where it is a work of genius. Some say, âJust read the Stoics!â or âThis isnât Stoicism!â I strongly disagree. The Benedictine Daily Prayer book isnât the Bible, but contains things FROM the Bible to be read in a daily practice. Here, The Daily Stoic contains passages from the Stoics with reflections from the authors to be read in daily practice. Same concept. And this works. The Book of Common Prayer alone is hundreds of years old; Book of Hours type books nearly a thousand years old.Stoicism needs to be a living, breathing practice and here it is in a format that makes this possible and accessible. You can take this book with you on travels and use it for practice not only on that day, but even to go back and find teachings about specific situations. Thatâs why prayer books remain a âthingâ despite the existence of the Bible. The authors encourage the reading of the âStoic canonâ (Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, Seneca) and thatâs important. But Epictetus taught philosophy is a practice, not just reading. Again, that is why The Daily Stoic is a work of genius. Here is the practice ready to go. And the leatherbound version affords it the importance of your daily practice. That said, if you canât lay out the money for the leatherbound, get the hard bound version. Donât wait. Every day is the right day âto begin againâ. Donât listen to those saying âItâs not Stoicism!â Of course it is. Stoicism is meant to be practiced. Also helpful is to get The Daily Stoic Journal to use with it. This will enhance your practice. These are both priceless tools in your practice. And, look, there is something here for everyone regardless of where youâre at in life. I donât see how anyone can afford to miss it.

Mostly good, easy daily read
Most of the pages are helpful and inspiring. Ryan’s political beliefs are pretty clear in all of his books, but including Saul Alinsky as a stoic is a bit of a stretch.

It’s a daily practice.
The Daily Stoic to me serves the purpose of being a daily prompt to read and think about one Stoic Philosophy ideal for a few minutes each morning. You do not read this book in one sitting. You do not even read it start to finish lie a regular book. This is not a book about a bunch of main foundational thoughts buttressed with anecdotes and stories to explain and cement the understanding of those thoughts in your subconscious like other non-fiction books. This is a book of deeply philosophical thoughts to be pondered during a daily ritual that is planned to last a year. it’s 366 meditations and ideas that cover most aspects of how you should live the good life. It’s a good reminder at times, it’s reinforcing your sense of discipline at other times when you find something that matches your own way of thinking, but the best thing is when you are pondering a life events that is engulfing your entire brain and then you open the page corresponding to the day and you find a guiding thought that introduces to you how to properly tackle that situation. It doesn’t happen every day, but if you stick with this book for an entire year, you will definitely get one of those days. I will be finishing this book the same day I started it next year. Stick with it, read it one page at a time for a year.

Helps me calibrate my mindset
I love this book. My brother has a high profile, high-stress job and when I asked him what he does to control his anxiety, he told me he reads a page every day.I created a routine where I read a page to my wife each morning to start off our day the right way.
